I completed Assignment #1 for Digital Photography I this past Thursday. This assignment had us take photos in extremely different aperture, ISO and shutter speed settings. For example, we had to take 10 photos at our lowest aperture (my lens goes to f/3.5) and high aperture(f/22). 10 photos for each low and high, in each category. I really enjoyed shooting for this assignment, and I felt very excited when I was starting to edit my photos.
My favorite setting to shoot in, so far, is low aperture. The dramatic shallow depth of field, and the details shown so sharply on a subject, make for a beautiful photo. I am looking forward to buying a new lens soon, and I think I'm going to get a 50mm 1.8 lens, because it has a much lower aperture than my current lens.
One difficulty I had during this assignment was when taking the slow shutter speed photos. I had my aperture and ISO as low as they could go, but in the early afternoon it was way too bright to take any long exposures. I quickly realized I needed to wait until it wasn't so sunny, and I was able to take some cool long exposure photos of Charlie skating, and cars on Deer Park Avenue.
I also am struggling a bit with editing. I am never really satisfied with my editing, and I am always second guessing my choices.
I think I may have some sort of light sensitivity, because when I'm editing my photos, after about 20 minutes the screen looks too bright! I also noticed that my reading glasses aren't helping me focus on the details of the photos anymore. I guess I'll have to get to an eye doctor soon. 😎
I included some of my favorite photos from the assignment below. I'm really proud of them, and I think I am doing better at this than I had initially expected!
I love all your pictures! You have a great amazing creative side to yourself! Ty for sharing your talent with the world!!
