Last week in my Digital Materials & Processes class, we learned how to use the custom white balance setting on our camera. We were given an assignment to shoot 3 different lighting situations in both daylight white balance and custom white balance, so that we could analyze the differences in the color of light. Creating a custom white balance with the white side of a grey card is an extra step, but it gives an almost-perfect white balance every time. I can certainly see how useful this is in portraiture, especially when shooting in a studio or a special lighting situation.
Can you tell which photos are daylight white balance and which are custom?
