Final Project - In progress

This semester has gone by so quickly. We are all already working on our final projects, which is exciting and also quite stressful. I have already changed the subject of my project once, but I think I am content with what I have chosen to work on.

I have taken some inspiration from August Sander. Here is a bit of information about his piece:
"The photo-books that August Sander produced as part of his monumental documentary project ‘People of the 20th Century’ represent an attempt to portray the general physiognomic characteristics of certain social and professional classes. By arranging his photographs of individuals and groups of people in series, he aimed to identify and define what was typical about their appearances. This photograph is from a series of hand studies that Sander compiled in 1944. The studies are enlargements of details from pictures he had taken mainly during the 1920s and 1930s. Rather than emphasising their shared physical traits, the series focuses on variations between the hands portrayed which belong to different professional types, ranging from manual labourers to businessmen and artists."

I was inspired by these photographs because I think focusing on one part of a person, like their hands, can really tell you so much about them. I have chosen to take photos of my loved one's hands, all people of varying ages and professions. I am not finished with my adjustments, but I think the photos have come along nicely so far. I look forward to seeing how all of the photos look together in one final piece of work.
